MENA FCCG Participates in UAB – U.S. Dept. of Treasury Conference – Beirut

MENA FCCG members participated in the Union of Arab Banks conference conducted February 3 – 4, 2022, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.  Opening address was by Mr. Wissam H. Fattouh, Secretary General, Union of Arab Banks.  Key note speakers included H.E. Mrs. Elizabeth Rosenberg, Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing, U.S. Department of Treasury and Mr. Michael Held, General Counsel and Executive Vice President, Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Dr. Joseph Torbey, Chairman – World Union of Arab Bankers, Mr. Mohamed Agrebi, Chairman, Tunisian Professional Association for Banks & Financial Institutions, and Dr. Adnan Yousif, Chairman – Bahrain Association of Banks delivered opening remarks.

 

Mr. Antoine Hobeiche, Financial and Banking Expert & Strategic advisor to  MENA FCCG moderated the session on Strengthening Anti-Bribery, Corruption Practices and Mitigating Sanctions, while Mr. Chahdan Jebeyli, Group Head Legal & Compliance, Bank Audi Group, Lebanon and FCCG Member participated as speaker on US Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) of 2020 session that covered among other topics modernization and reforms of AML/CFT laws and regulations, major changes to the AML/CFT landscape, and enhanced AML whistleblower program. In addition, FCCG Member Mr. Ihab El Masry, Group Head Compliance  & Corporate Governance, National Bank of Egypt moderated the session on MENA FATF scope, objectives, methodologies and recommendations.  Mr. Muhammad Baasiri, Chairman of the US-MENA PSD initiative delivered closing remarks.
