MENA FCCG Participates in UAB Conference in Jordan “Compliance with International Standards in Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing: Future & Challenges”
MENA FCCG participated in the UAB conference that took place August 15-16, 2022 in Amman – Jordan. In his opening remarks, Dr. Wissam Fattouh, Secretary General of the UAB and MENA FCCG Chair, briefed participants on MENA FCCG including recent actions to deliver on its mission in bringing collective action in the fight against financial crime in the region. The conference discussed an array of topics including targeted financial sanctions and proliferation financing, identifying beneficial ownership, assessing compliance with FATF recommendations, and application of risk-based approach. Significantly, as necessary to keep pace with change and evolving best practice, the conference also covered two critical topics; compliance with Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) and Privacy and Data Protection best practices.
MENA FCCG member, Mr. Dabbour, Director of Group Regulatory Compliance – Arab Bank delivered a presentation on ABC best practice while noting the value of the ABC best practice tools available on MENA FCCG website. Mr. Ahmad Al Qawasmeh, Head of Regulatory Standards & Privacy/ Vice President Group Regulatory Compliance – Arab Bank delivered a presentation on ensuring compliance with Privacy Data Protection best practice in alignment with EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) key pillars. He also encouraged participates to navigate the best practice compliance tools developed by MENA FCCG in this area.
Speakers in the high profile event included H.E. Mr. Bassem Al Salem, Chairman, Association of Banks in Jordan, H.E. Dr. Mohamad Kouman, Secretary General, Council of Arab Interior Ministers, Tunisia, HE. Dr. Adel Sharkas, Governor, Central Bank of Jordan, and Dr. Muhammad Baasiri, Chairman of US-MENA PSD Initiative.
